"CREATIVITY TAKES COURAGE"  -  HENRI MATISSE

That's written in bold black marker on the wall of my studio. I'm situated on the Isle of Wight. A famous coastal town called Cowes, a popular spot for sailing (which of course I don't do).

I live and work here with my two teenage children and husband… A talented photographer - www.robertlongford.com - check him out.

I studied at Northampton University back in 1998 and earned a 1st Class degree in Fine Art Painting and Art History which led to further study and creative pursuits into digital design and illustration in Brighton.

Now I'm settled within a coastal environment of sea and sand. You can see how Island living has influenced the direction of my work, especially with the recent series of work in oils, called…'The little people'. This had huge success internationally and I am

now working on a new series of work, looking at the human form, how it relates to the surrounding water. Alongside this, a rise in interest from clients to revisit portraiture.

I paint mainly in oils, on canvas, canvas panels or wooden panels. Each surface has their own reaction to how the paint is applied. All with identifiable strong colours and gestural brushstrokes.

Inspiration also comes from a wide range of painters. But to name a few… Klimt is definitely up there along with Van Gogh, Degas and Monet. They continue to be a huge influence. Their use of light and colour, loose brushstrokes has left its mark on me. Especially their work of trees and water.
