Zoe Barber is an artist who focuses on the human figure, creating images of surreal, dreamlike and bizarre portraiture. She is heavily influenced by the composition of Renaissance Art and how the work portrays the real, but is more than likely a surreal reality because of the influence of the sitter and how they wanted to be portrayed alongside the technique of the artist. Zoe makes the viewer create their own narrative of the unusual, hidden faced characters in her carefully thought-out scenes created in a vary of mediums and materials. She manipulates and plays with photographs, which are taken by herself or are Zoe's very own family pictures. She is fascinated by photography and how over many years the portrait and the way a person poses for the camera or a painting has hardly changed. Filling her work with colour is just a distraction from the reality of the photo; transforming the real into the surreal.
